Family DentistryYour Augusta, GA, family dentist, Dr. John Massey, knows the importance of having a doctor who knows you and your whole family.

Procedures Your Doctor Provides:

  • Bridges: Bridges are custom-made oral appliances that can conceal dental gaps, and help restore proper bite and chewing functions. They can be used instead of dental implants to conceal dental gaps.

  • Fillings/Dental Bonding: In order to prepare your teeth for the composite, your family dentist will apply an etching solution on the tooth surface, then apply a composite resin that matches the color of your teeth. The composite is molded to the right shape and hardened with a curing light.

  • Crowns: A dental crown is a porcelain cap that covers unaesthetic teeth, like cracks, dents, and chips, and reinforces weak teeth. When your tooth is severely decayed and large portions of it are removed. Your Augusta family dentists use a dental crown to restore and protect your tooth.
  • Veneers: They are made of thin porcelain and used to resurface an individual's teeth, especially if they are stained, or discolored, as result of drinking coffee, or tea, smoking, chewing tobacco, tetracycline-containing medicine, and poor hygiene. They also fix teeth that are misshapen, like crooked, overcrowded, and irregularly shaped teeth.

Dental/Oral Hygiene:

Here are a few tips to stay healthy:

  • Visit your dentist for bi-annual dental appointments to maintain your oral health.
  • Avoid eating hard candies and sugary food.
  • Use fluoride-containing products like toothpastes and mouthwash.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables that'll help avoid cavities.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day by spending two full minutes brushing your teeth and tilting your brush at a 45-degree angle to ensure you remove as much food debris as possible.
  • Floss your teeth before bed to preserve your crowns and natural teeth.
  • Drink plenty of water to remove food debris.

Cosmetic Dentistry ProceduresWhat's more important than your health and self-confidence? A beautiful smile demonstrates you have both. Fortunately, today's cosmetic dentistry treatments, such as those offered at Augusta Smile Care, provide the look you want and the longevity you need. Dr. John Massey invites you to discuss your smile goals and to learn more about the aesthetic procedures he offers.

The goal of cosmetic dentistry in Augusta, GA

Improving upon healthy teeth and gums, cosmetic dentistry aims to enhance the color, shape, texture and alignment of adult smiles. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry says that people notice someone's smile first before seeing anything else.

Additionally, the AACD states that your smile not only reflects your personality, it actually plays a role in shaping it. So, if you are self-conscious about your smile, your confidence diminishes, and those around you perceive it.

So, how would you like your smile to change and project the real you? Some issues commonly addressed by Dr. Massey include:

  • Stubborn dental stains from tobacco, coffee, blueberries, and other dietary choices
  • Chips, cracks, pits, fissures, and other enamel defects
  • Congenital malformations such as a peg-shaped lateral incisor
  • Dark metal fillings
  • Smile alignment, including poor spacing and gaps
  • Dull, worn tooth enamel
  • Missing teeth

Together, you and your dentist will prioritize your oral health needs and cosmetic goals. Then, Dr. Massey will formulate a treatment plan addressing those important aspects of your smile.

Offered cosmetic dentistry procedures
The team at Augusta Smile Care is proficient in many. Their most popular is in-office teeth whitening. It's a safe and practical way to relieve your tooth enamel of years of accumulated stains. Also, whitening is the most economical way to make a bold and dramatic statement with your smile.
Another popular treatment is composite resin bonding. With a unique blend of glass and acrylic, Dr. Massey corrects small defects such as chips, cracks and gaps. Composite resin also strengthens weak enamel, and the repair is seamless, tooth-colored and highly durable. Simple cosmetic contouring, a reshaping and sanding of rough edges, tiny chips and more, often accompanies bonding.
Porcelain veneers cover more substantial flaws with a thin shell of dental ceramic. Along with porcelain crowns, or caps, veneers are used to strengthen weak teeth and prevent further damage. Both services involve two appointments at Augusta Smile Care, and the finished products are realistic and beautiful.
Finally, for great-looking and well-functioning tooth replacement, Dr. Massey often advises dental implant placement. If you're missing one, two or more teeth, implants provide superior biting and chewing and actually strengthen the jaw bone and gum tissue.

VivicasVeneerstheMakingofaHollywoodSmile

What's an actor's most important feature? According to Vivica A. Fox, whose most recent big-screen role was in Independence Day: Resurgence, it's what you see right up front.

"On screen, your smile and your eyes are the most inviting things that bring the audience in" she said. "Especially if you play the hot chick."

But like lots of people, Vivica reached a point where she felt her smile needed a little help in order to look its best. That's when she turned to a popular cosmetic dental treatment.

"I got veneers years ago," Ms. Fox told Dear Doctor magazine in a recent interview, "just because I had some gapping that probably only I noticed."

What exactly are dental veneers? Essentially, they are thin shells of lustrous porcelain that are permanently attached to the front surfaces of the teeth. Tough, lifelike and stain-resistant, they can cover up a number of defects in your smile — including stains, chips, cracks, and even minor spacing irregularities like the ones Vivica had.

Veneers have become the treatment of choice for Hollywood celebs — and lots of regular folks too — for many reasons. Unlike some treatments that can take many months, it takes just a few appointments to have veneers placed on your teeth. Because they are custom made just for you, they allow you to decide how bright you want your smile to be: anywhere from a natural pearly hue to a brilliant "Hollywood white." Best of all, they are easy to maintain, and can last for many years with only routine care.

To place traditional veneers, it's necessary to prepare the tooth by removing a small amount (a millimeter or two) of its enamel surface. This keeps it from feeling too big — but it also means the treatment can't be reversed, so once you get veneers, you'll always have them. In certain situations, "no-prep" or minimal-prep veneers, which require little or no removal of tooth enamel, may be an option for some people.

Veneers aren't the only way to create a better smile: Teeth whitening, crowns or orthodontic work may also be an alternative. But for many, veneers are the preferred option. What does Vivica think of hers?

"I love my veneers!" she declared, noting that they have held up well for over a decade.

Dental VeneersOne of the most popular ways that a dentist can improve the look of your smile is with the installation of porcelain veneers. According to a recent American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry survey, veneers are third on the list of the most common cosmetic dentistry treatments desired by patients. Consult a dentist at Augusta SmileCare in Martinez, GA, and serving the Augusta area, to discover just how beautiful your smile can look with a veneer treatment.

A Beautiful Smile
The luster and quality of your smile can fade over the years due to discoloration, cracks, or eroded enamel. Although a vast majority of Americans really want to have a better-looking smile, many put off visiting the dentist to find out their options. Even if you’ve given up on having the pearly white smile that you see in magazines because of major tooth imperfections, it’s worthwhile to see your Augusta and Martinez dentist and talk about cosmetic treatments.

Veneers: A Long-Term Cosmetic Solution
You might be surprised to know just how many of your favorite people have veneers. Most people are not born with ideally shaped, perfectly aligned teeth—they need help just like you do. Veneers cover up those imperfections and will brighten your appearance for 10 or more years. When you consider the many personal and professional benefits, you’ll see how veneers can be a valuable investment.

Veneer Care
After you make this investment in your smile, it’s up to you to care for your veneers to ensure they continue to look beautiful for many years. Here are a few care tips to make sure your new smile continues to flourish:

- Spend a little bit of extra time flossing and brushing around the surfaces of the veneers to ensure that plaque doesn’t have a chance to form.
- Protect your gum health with antigingivitic products (toothpaste and rinses) recommended by your dentist, and also by improving your dietary choices.
- Get professional cleanings done every six months, on schedule.

Your teeth make up a small percentage of your body, yet have a significant impact on your appearance and self-esteem. When your teeth veneersare discolored or crooked, it's hard to feel good about your smile. Veneers, an innovative cosmetic dentistry treatment, can give you the smile you deserve. Our Augusta, GA, dentist, Dr. John Massey, explains how veneers can help you.

What are veneers?

Veneers fit over the fronts of teeth and are made of porcelain or plastic. In most cases, a very small amount of tooth enamel is removed before veneers are attached to the teeth with dental cement. Removing the enamel ensures that the veneers are comfortable and look completely natural.

Are veneers appropriate for my dental issues?

Veneers are a good choice for many cosmetic issues. You may benefit from them if you're concerned about:

  • Teeth That Stand Out: In the ideal smile, teeth are roughly the same same shape and size. Oddly shaped or crooked teeth detract from the appearance of your smile. Luckily, it's easy to make these teeth appear more uniform by adding veneers to them.
  • Uneven Surfaces: Sometimes, your enamel isn't completely smooth. Veneers are very effective at covering up bumpy areas or depressions on the surface of teeth.
  • Spaces Between Teeth: Applying veneers to teeth offers a simple way to close slight gaps.
  • Discolorations: Do you have one or more discolored teeth? Whether the problem occurred due to a dental problem or tetracycline use, a discolored tooth is extremely noticeable. Unfortunately, whitening products have no effect on tooth color if the source of the discoloration originates inside your tooth. Veneers can be made to match the color of your other teeth. They're an excellent solution if you want to improve the appearance of a discolored tooth.
  • A Dull Smile: When your smile is dull or yellow, veneers offer a long-lasting way to whiten all of your teeth. Because you pick the color of your veneers in our Augusta office, your smile can be as white as you wish. Veneers are very stain resistant and will require no special care. You just brush and floss as you normally do when you have veneers.

Transform your smile with veneers! If you're interested in learning more about this cosmetic dentistry treatment, call our Augusta, GA, dentist, Dr. Massey, at (706) 868-1322 to schedule an appointment.
